TCTBTF: This Is The Remix

OK. I’m not playing. You people better help me. You better be involved and accountable. I want tips, recipes, and motivational tools. I want participation! If you guys slack on me, I will never, ever, ever, speak to you again. I mean it!

The first order of business is to vote on whether or not we’re gonna be disclosing sizes and weights. I’m torn. On the one hand, I think it might prove to be helpful if we’re open and honest (at the very least it will shame us into action) about our numbers. On the other hand, who the hell wants the whole internet knowing what a fatty they are? I sure don’t. Also, the numbers may prove to be a distraction in the beginning.

Here’s my vote: I think everyone should mark their weight, measurements and garmet sizes down starting Sunday morning. For the first few weeks, let’s just focus on changing habits one at a time. For the first month, each week, we’ll set a goal and incorporate it into our lifestyles. Like, your first week you may decide to concentrate on cutting out soda. Week two you may decide to incorporate a walk every day. Week three? Cutting your carbs.

Each Sunday we can share how we did meeting that goal and announce our new one. We won’t be replacing the goals, but adding them. After two weeks you’ll have made two changes, three changes after three weeks, etc. Also, everyone will be responsible for sharing one tip, piece of encouragement OR healthy recipe each week.

We’ll begin this Sunday, November 1st. So eat all the halloween candy you’re gonna the night before. Also, if you’re like us and do your grocery shopping on the weekend, you can do your shopping for the first week on Saturday so you’ll wake up with the right ingredients in your house on Sunday and not be tempted to hit up IHOP or Dunkin’ Donuts.

That said, we will not berate each other for slip-ups and since we’re taking it slow (remember, you didn’t gain the weight in a week so you won’t lose it in one week either) you should make your goals realistic. If your first week’s goal is just to take a walk everyday, so be it. Don’t beat yourself up if you miss a day. You took more walks than you did last week.

Hmm, my first week’s goal will be… no soda. At all. I’m a soda fiend and I need to stop. And not just no soda, but I need to drink more water. In addition, I’m going to incorporate my normal changes when I get serious: limit carbs, sugar, fried foods, more fish and veggies, etc., but my main goal for the week is to eliminate the soda.

What about you? What’s your week one goal?

If you follow me on Twitter, feel free to tweet during the week if you need a motivational push or just to vent on how its going.  I’m neenerspb. Leave your Twitter name here so we can all follow you and let’s make sure to hashtag all of our tweets with #TCTBTF

I'm in but I'll have to start this Sunday since I missed the November 1st start date. One week behind...typical me.

If I could just not drink beer every night I'm sure I could drop the last 5-10 I've been moaning about for a year! I've been walking each dog a few miles everynight...so in 3 walks I go all over my hood. I have lost 5 over the past 2 months. My friend and I get together and walk the boys all over the place. It's good gossip time and everyone gets worn out....and no I don't even smoke while I'm walking.

I don't like sweets or pop....all my SOS calls would be..Heather put down the beer, whiskey, car bomb.

ok so i decided to do this with you. Well, cause I need motivation and I kind of started doing the same thing anyway nov 1st. SO. Here goes nothing.

Week 1 goal for me is smaller portions and no soda. Next week will be walking places if i could avoid transportation, it will be avoided. Lets see how it goes.

so i added the tctbtf lists!!! and im following nikki's just in case i missed anyone lol

I am in! I vote to disclose our weights. I am on facebook but not twitter. My stupid phone wont seem to let me check my twitter and I dont have access to the internet as often otherwise. This week, starting now, I am going to cut out pop. I am throwing away my drink right now and goin to drink more water!!! Go back to basic training "3 non carbonated non caffenated beverages with each and every meal." lol that equals about 12oz :)

I'm in, not going to fight with the food so much this week but going to work on getting three hours of exercise a week rather it be ten minutes at a time or whatever.

I'm up for the challenge Nina

I'm not on twitter (i know its not mandatory), so i'll be looking for your blogs.

I'm ok with sharing weight and measurements. I think it will motivate us all as well as make us accountable.

My goal for this week is no soda (pop) only water and natural drinks.

Good Luck everyone!!!

I have a gym membership and need to use it more than once a week.

I'm in Nina! I already follow you on twitter (that sounds so stalkerish!). My twitter name is thisthingcl. I have about 30-40 pounds to lose. Let's get it!

My first goal is to work out 4 times a week.

I'm in! And I vote for sharing weights and measurements.

My first week's goal is to cut down my booze consumption to an acceptable one night per week (vs two or three....don't judge me).

M

My twitter name is melissaishere.

I'll prolly join.

I've been working on my diet for the last week (cutting sweets first)

I just broke up with my boyfriend so I intend to eat whatever the hell I want to to mask the pain.

Only you could make me laugh at something so painful.

Good. I was hoping to make you laugh through my tears. But I agree with your whole "It sucks to be Fat" rant, and as soon as I am over wallowing in self-pity, I will be reinstating "Operation I'm Bringing Sexy Back."

Today I went to the zoo by myself and then treated myself to a hotdog, french fries and pepsi.

you know I have been waiting for this.. I need a group to be accountable to. my twitter name is (PRicanQT)... I don't know how to do the Hash thing Nina? and I say if we aren't posting weights or measurements, at least make your own excel spreadsheet to monitor... That's what I plan to do.

woohoo.... sending my friend Nina to this site again... she just said she needed to lose weight yesterday!

OK. I'm gonna follow you. All you have to do is include that in your tweet. So your tweet might look like this:

"I am so unmotivated today. I want a burger! Help! #TCTBTF"

That's it.

Okay Ithink I got it and Twitter now has the list thing... so i created a list to put eberyone in that is part of TCTBTF group on my following...

I'm @RivaDena if you would like to add me. Though ...

I don't tweet a lot and half the time I forget to check my tweetdeck account (which is my main way of keeping up with those I follow), but I'm hoping to force myself for this.

That's okay. Twitter isn't mandatory. I'm just more likely to see that if you send out an S.O.S. :-)

omg i can't participate till January. i have to pig out for the holidays. unless someone knows a lowfat pumpkin bread recipe. i gotta have pumpkin bread. its not thanksgiving without it!

i just want to be able to jog a couple of miles a day consistently. that's my goal. i dont want to lose a bunch of weight cuz i can't afford to replace all my clothes. lol

See, I thought about that, but I think doing it now will be fine. Just give yourself a pass for the holidays. I think if you start now and "splurge" on Thanksgiving and Christmas you'll be fine. Two or three days out of two months won't derail you. And you may have more to lose if you start in January. Also, I'd be too tempted to be a pig ALL of Nov. and Dec. instead of just a few days thinking, "Well, I'm starting in January so..."

you are right, by jan i'll be way far behind. and besides, i only need to make pumkin bread once or twice, not 20 times. lol i really need to chill on the sugar. its like crack, i get hooked.

I'd love to follow along too. I have lots of recipes and tips of things that worked for me (no guarantee they'll work for anyone else, though). I think your first goal of cutting soda (we call it "pop" in Canada) is great. I went one step further and decided to only drink water (herbal tea counts as water) and low-fat milk (chocolate milk counts as low fat milk if it's 1%). No pop, no beer, no juice, no lattes. And think how much money you'll save without buying Starbucks a few times a week!

Oh, PS: V8 is ok to drink too, I don't count it in the "juice" category.

The big thing for me will be obtaining new recipes that are affordable. We get bored easily, but we love to cook together. It would be great if I could manage one new meal a night for the entire month - Thanksgiving holiday excluded.

Having something new to try is great. I'd love to help you out with some new recipes if I can. But you can also use some of your old favourites with just a few modifications. The main thing is to make sure you only use whole grains, extra lean meats, and low-fat dairy. And lots and lots of vegetables.

Example: Spaghetti and meatballs the old way can be a pretty unhealthy meal. But if you use whole wheat pasta, extra lean ground beef, bison, or turkey for the meatballs, make your own sauce from canned tomatoes instead of the jarred sauces that are full of sugar, and add heaps of chopped veggies - voila, healthy tasty meal!

I would like to join you in this journey as well. I have been saying all week that I am too fat. I feel TERRIBLE... getting depressed... so I need to do something to save myself before I fall in the abyss...

so my first week goal will be to GET OUT OF THE HOUSE and EXERCISE! and then bring my lunch from home for a week.

OK--I'm doing this as well...I will get signed up at the gym on Monday, I forgot all this week.

My first week's goal...go to the gym every day, except Wed., if only to do cardio...and no bread other than for lunchtime sandwiches.

My vote is no posting of the weights....

See, I like that you're being realistic. Instead of no carbs completely, trying to limit them to your lunchtime meal.

I'm going to do this with you, albeit slightly modified since I'm (holy crap) six months pregnant now. But, I need to start adopting some healthy changes in anticipation. So, first change, daily walks in the morning before work, either with, or without our daughter.

Walking may be my week two goal. We'll see. I wish I'd walked more when I was pregnant with Jack. I did in the beginning and at the end, but only then to induce labor. :-)

Having the c-section with Alanna took a lot more out of me (mentally, emotionally AND physically) than I would have expected. Now that my doctors are telling me that they "insist" on performing a c-section for this one as well, I know that I need to do something for either of two reasons. 1) be in better physical shape to better recover from the procedure or 2) (now that you've mentioned it :)) somehow induce labor and let the doctor's have no choice but to let me go naturally.
