TCTBTF: Week 3

Monday 1/19

If you’re trying to eat better, I highly recommend writing about it. I swear these three weeks have flown by. Normally, when I get back on the wagon the first two weeks are the worst; it’s hard for me to get used to the smaller portions and I’m usually super-cranky because I’m having a hard time adjusting.

Not so now. These three weeks have been a breeze.

Breakfast is usually one of the same few items – multigrain Cheerios, oatmeal, scrambled egg whites, whole wheat toast, yogurt, fruit, juice, water. Lunch is some sort of sandwich with veggies or something from the breakfast menu. Dinner is my biggest meal and it’s always a lean meat, veggies, with either wild rice or whole wheat pasta. Snacks are fruit, granola bars, yogurt, or whole wheat crackers.

Tuesday 1/20

I’ve been soda free for three weeks! But I have a new addiction. Peanut butter. Good lord. I eat a spoonful with breakfast… another with a snack. I spread it on celery and bananas.

Wednesday 1/21

Kali wants my peanut butter. She never thinks about peanut butter, but now, all of sudden, she wants peanut butter.

“Mommy, can I have some?”

I want to say, “Get your own!”

But she has no job.

She now spreads it on bananas. So that means she’s dogging my bananas too.

I asked Donny to pick up more peanut butter tonight.

Thursday 1/22

Good God, I love peanut butter. This peanut butter tastes funny though.

Who told Donny to get reduced fat?

I’m sure he’s trying to be helpful, but yeah… don’t.

I weighed myself before going to class. Down 7lbs. That’s crazy talk. I haven’t worked out all week because I just don’t have the time. There’s no way I lost 7lbs in one week. That can’t be right.

Friday 1/23/09

It wasn’t. This week’s damage?

-2lbs

Three week total? 7lbs.

Now, imagine what I can do if I just work out?

Next week I pledge to:

  1. Do the Wii Fit x2
  2. Elliptical at least once
  3. Take a walk around neighborhood with Jack if weather permits.

How bout you? How was your week? What could you be doing better, and what are you willing to pledge for next week to get there?

pbdiet

Note: I am not on a peanut butter diet. I just thought the picture was funny. Also, spare me the lectures about peanut butter. Remember, my caloric intake is still higher than most because I’m breast feeding.

I joined the gym tonight! I had an hour long induction, and then this week I'll organise a proper membership (you can sign up for a membership or just pay each time you go) and once I've been a couple of times and gotten used to the machines, they'll set up a personal plan for me.
I also took my nephew to his swimming lesson today as my sister has just had her baby, so I had to get a swimming costume, which I hope is going to motivate me to start swimming a couple of times a week.

You're doing so well! And I want apple wedges dipped in peanut butter now...

Sarah xx

I bought a cookie at Mrs. Fields today and I wish I had bought two. Next time, I will buy two.

And one was peanut butter flavored.

Hmmm. I wonder if they're still open...

OoOo!!! Be careful with the peanut butter, I just read last night that salmonella contaminated PB (and items made with PB ie:cookies, candies & crackers) was turning up and point of origin was a plant in GA.

p.s. Did you post an Obama blog this week?

I add Benefiber to my cereal in the morning to help me stay fuller, longer. I try to make sure I get the recommended 25-35 grams of it a day. Mission Carb Balance Whole Wheat Tortillas have 21 frickin' grams of the stuff, and I use them to make tuna wraps, bean burritos, etc.

Wii Fit sounds fun. I think I might get one soon.

Stay motivated and strong!

it's just like everytime I come here.

I don't know what I should be more frightened of...

what you're cooking.

or your diet.

I'm so hating the weather - it's been two weeks since we saw the sun. And cold and damp. I need to get back to working out but I'm having problems because my mood sucks. Anyway. I am addicted to peanut butter. A couple tablespoons is a great quick pick me up. Congrats on the 7 pounds!

I am so ashamed. So so so ashamed.

I have been good. But I did have moments of weakness. Not weakness actually. Moments where I said, I deserve to eat this because it makes me feel better. So maybe, emotional weakness. But it wasn't anything like a piece of chocolate cake or anything. More like a handful of french fries or a slice of pizza or a candy bar.

But every morning I have the same meal, either shredded wheat with nonfat milk and a banana, or oatmeal with a banana. And if I miss breakfast, I snack here and there until a late lunch.

I haven't remembered to count calories or stuff each day, and I think I need to be really on the ball about that.

You're an inspiration though. I've lost only 3lbs in 2 weeks, and 2 lbs the first week, so my total is 5 over all. But I think I might have lost inches.

The good thing is, no matter what I'm doing, even if I 'cheat', it is still a 100% improvement on how I was eating before. So I still feel good about myself.

I like your breakfast menu.
Wait, you mean, like, ALL those things, not one item, right? Like, you eat ALL those things as a single meal?

I'm allergic to peanut butter, so I can't have it... except when I'm feeling exceptionally well and haven't had asthma flare-ups for at least a week. Since that rarely happens, I rarely have peanut butter.

I fell off my wagon a bit this week. I've had three sodas this week, two of them diet, one not because I refuse to drink Diet Coke. Oh, and I had a Starbucks Mocha and totally forgot to ask for lowfat milk, because I never have in the past. I realized this after it was being made. Something to think about in the future, though.

I have lost 6 lbs over the last 2 weeks. I do this by eating cottage cheese or yogurt in the mornings. If it doesn't get me through I snack on some "Raw" Almonds. Then for lunch a lean cuisine or some soy beans. And dinner, whatevs I want in moderation.

It also helps my BP is through the roof, I don't want to eat due to hot flashes because of my Menopaus-iness. I think that is the true key to weight loss. Hot flashes and High Blood Pressure...

My love, is not of the penut butter, but of the soy bean. I eat them like candy. I am ADDICTED!

My insurance company (as part of my pre weight loss surgery education) actually suggested peanut butter toast for breakfast. Peanut butter is an excellent source of protein, and if you stick with a serving of it, you would be fine :) I use sarah lee de-light bread. It's a bit smaller in size but honestly I don't notice.

Sorry if someone posted all this already, my head is killing me today and I'm too lazy to read all the comments lol

Good for you! Writing down is essential -- I use eTools on Weight Watchers (WW). Your eating habits rock!

Setting good examples -- kids see what you eat, PB.

How bout you: I cleansed and dropped a significant amount of weight this week (hubby says, it’s all water -- gee thanks honey, I know your hands will be all over this water loss). I weigh in today at WW. Since officially starting our office competition of the Biggest Loser, I’m down 11 lbs in one week. I know… but I do work out 5 or 6 days a week and sometimes twice a day.

How was your week: All liquids this week, weaned into food yesterday w/yogurt + granola. Scale is the same today.

What could you be doing better, and what are you willing to pledge for next week to get there: I’m going to try to hit a couple more yoga classes next week and include my hubby with me. Stretching is important too. Goal for this week is 2 lbs.

Good luck to you.

I got sick and it slowed down my working out momentum but I have managed to do at least 20-30 on the stationary bike and some weights (only about 10 minutes)every weekday for the last two weeks and I am three days into a carb-free cleanse. Man, I feel rotten on it, but I know it will get me back on track to eating more protein and veggies versus eating ricebread and sugarfree chocolate and chips all day long.

I only lost a pound this week. I only stopped bleeding yesterday- do I still have water retention or am I just a useless dieter this week, I wonder?! :)

I'm going to get some organic peanut butter- you're making me crave it!

Woman don’t worry about Peanut butter. It’s good for you. (at least that’s what I tell myself as I shovel it into my mouth..)Funny story.. When I was pregnant with my first child I ate Peanut butter and bacon sandwiches EVERY DAY. It sounds NASTY but for some reason the sweet saltiness of the peanut butter complements the Bacon very well.

I got a Bodybugg last week and have been wearing it 23 hours out of the day for the past week. (it’s the thing all of the Biggest Loser contestants wear on their arms) It’s really amazing how much I was lying to myself about my activity levels. I thought I was pretty active, the BodyBugg tells me I am actually quite sluglike.

The device tracks all of your steps and calories(how many you burned in the 24 hour period) and activity level for the day. You are supposed to log 10,000 steps a day, get at least 30 minutes of moderate activity a day, and eat 700 calories less than you burn in a day. If you meet all of these requirements you are guaranteed weight loss. (you can get more information from bodybugg dot com)I bought mine from 24 hour fitness for 249.00 They sell on the Bodybugg website for much more than that.

After following the program for a week I have lost 5 pounds.(so that comes to a total of 9 pounds in 3 weeks!) Granted I am working really hard to meet all of those targets every day, but it makes it easier to be able to look down at my digital display and see where I’m at.

This week I’m going to work on getting more “formal” exercise into my day. I just got one of the Biggest Loser workout DVDs and I’m committing to doing it at least 3 times next week.

Wow, another good thing. I saw a girl in my strength training class wearing this and she got hers at 24 Hr. (We're at Bally's). I'm going to Bodyugg's site too. It's a good day...

OMG...hecka pricey!

I've been the same way with my Sunbutter! I eat spoonfuls of it, sprinkled with Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips (dairy and soy free).

Don't feel bad about fatty foods. A high fat diet (with good fats) is actually healthy. It's overall calories consumed versus calories burned that matters. Fats are really good for you - especially since your breastfeeding. Plant-based fats are fine. I eat loads of avocados, drench things in olive oil, use coconut oil (VERY good for you), and STILL lose weight. I don't eat red meat or pork, red meat, or eggs. I swear, eliminating dairy and eggs from my diet made weight loss easier than ever.

Have you checked out Cooking Light recipes? They have magazines LOADED with delicious recipes and several cookbooks. I use their recipes all the time. I love that they give you the nutritional information per serving. I think their website is decent, too. I used to subscribe to the magazine when I was dieting and enjoyed the recipes as well as the fitness articles/information. I bought a bunch of Cooking Light cookbooks at Half-Price Books, too.

There were three days where I lost crazy-fast once I started getting serious again. Cutting all drinks but water, eating veggies with peppers mixed in and a little pinch of sugar on top to give me a morning boost, eating Subway for lunch and dinner (I get a footlong and eat half for lunch, half for dinner). I got up one day, weighed myself and had lost 4 pounds. I was like WOOOOOOOW!! Then the next morning, another 5 were gone. I was like HOLY SHIT...9 POUNDS SINCE THE 4TH??
W00T. But then it came back and has been sloooooowly melting off.

Congrats on the no-soda thing. I just decided on the 4th that I'd cut everything but water, thinking there was no way I could pull THAT off but it's been really easy. I had bought a Kern's apricot drink, had about a sip or two, didn't want it anymore and gave it away. Before I would have downed that bitch. Yesterday, I got out of my 2 hour ballet class and texted my boyfriend "I would all but lick a hooker's snatch for a Mountain Dew". I bought a can, drank about 1/3 then gave it away cuz I felt that was all I needed. I drank an extra cup of water, trying to make up for it.

Oh man...you have ME wanting peanut butter now. I hate celery but I could go for some cut up apples with peanut butter...mmm...

I'm starting tomorrow, and I think I'm going to write about it too. Maybe just a once a week post to my blog might keep me a little more accountable.

I want to say, “Get your own!”

But she has no job.

LOL !!! I feel the same way sometimes !

I have been doing pretty good with my healthier eating (down 6lbs so far !). I make sure I eat lots of fresh veggies and fruit and that really fills me up. I am also taking chia seeds and they not only help me feel full, but more energetic !

Keep going we can do it !

Chia seeds? I'm gonna investigate this one. I love when I learn from a blog. Thanks all...

I'm a Splenda gal.

I think peanut butter might be the most versitile food in the world. It goes with everything.

How do you like the Wii fit?

Love it! It tracks everything, though. If you've been away for awhile it WILL ask your ass, "Where you been?" And I think, if you listen closely, it will call you fatty.

That is awesome. I got one for my gf because its what she wanted for her birthday. We've had it for a couple days and have been playing the games but haven't tried the fit yet. I am pretty excited about it and want to get the Shawn White snowboarding game.

It will definitely give you a workout.

I have a previous comment awaiting moderation. Pretty Please?? :-D

Oops. I was doing biology. Going now.

NOTE TO EVERYONE: If you ever have a comment awaiting moderation, it's because you included a link in your reply and Wordpress treats it as spam. I need to approve it and I only go into Wordpress to post new blogs. If you have that happen, just leave another comment telling me to go check.

I give up. I'm a quitter...I need to eat and eat bad. I suck.

It's a winter thing for me I think, I don't want to go outside for shit. My boyfriend says he's picking up Burger King, well hell if that means I don't have to go outside get me a double cheesburger please.

How are we even friends? I abhor peanut butter!!:-X

How are we even friends? I abhor people that use the word abhor.

I just found out this week that I have PCOS, I'm pre-diabetic, and that I need to lose 40-50lbs (to be at my ideal weight)... YIKES! I've cut my calories down to 1300-1500 and plan on going a bit lower once I get used to this new lifestyle of not eating things chock full of sugar, little to no alcohol, and lots of fruits and veggies. It's been pretty easy the last couple days (I'm on Day 4). I'll be going back to the gym (or working out at home) next week... hopefully 5 days a week. It's a change but when your doctor says you can't conceive even if you wanted to... it's a change I can handle.

You're definitely an inspiration though... I hope I'll be able to lose 1-2 pounds a week until I get to my goal. Reading your blogs about your weight loss definitely helps me know that I can do it :) Thanks!

Girl, I KNOW you can do it. No greater motivation. Sounds like you already have the right idea. Can you have Splenda? When I first did Weight Watchers, Splenda was my friend. My friend David and I used to joke that the stuff was so good, it HAD to be bad for you. We were like, "They're gonna tell us in five years this shit causes cancer... and we'll still use it."

I'll be sure to find some alternative recipes that are very low in sugar or with sugar substitutes to post.

Yeah, I can have Splenda... I've never put it IN things though (like coffee, tea, etc) but it's in Diet Coke so it can't be THAT bad, right?

You're the best; I need all the help I can get finding out what I can substitute instead of having sugar, lol.

Stevia is a good sweetener and it is usable by people with diabetes. Chia seeds are also supposed to be good for people with diabetes, they slow the rate of glucose absorption into the bloodstream.

I was going to recommend Stevia, too.

The bad thing about artificial sweetners is that they are correlated to weight gain. The theory is that it makes people crave more sweets and they end up taking in more calories.

Stevia is a plant that tastes sweet but has little caloric value. I've used it and prefer it over Splenda. Many grocery stores carry it now, but a health food store will definitely have it.

Sugar has addictive qualities and cutting back will be difficult. You will crave it. The cravings diminish as your body adjusts. It is tough at first! Try using agave nectar (low glycemic index), eating fruit (naturally sweet), and stevia if you must sweeten your coffee or iced tea. As for the soda: just replace it with water. If you miss carbonation, use sparkling water or club soda with lemon/lime (and a little stevia if you must).

I officially gave up fast food and soda. Yesterday I asked someone if Dunkin Donuts was fast food? lol I eat fast food 4 days aweek. (eeeekk) lol Three days andfeeling good.

You know,Ican't eat plain peanutbuter it has to be chunky.

Congrats. keep going.

How do you write a diet blog about Peanut butter and not mention the recall? On everything peanut butter except actual jars of the stuff.

I have been trying to start my day with 2 servings of fruit, protein and dairy. How am I doing this? Homemade Yogurt smoothies. I drink them on the commute to work. No, HFCS. Plain low fat yogurt, a combination of fruits of my choice, some honey to make it sweet and a splash of vanilla.

My co-worker and I start lunch time workouts on Monday.

Uh, how 'bout because salmonella is the best diet EVER? I mean, all that vomiting and stuff. I say load up on peanut butter!

Woman don't worry about Peanut butter. It's good for you. (at least that's what I tell myself as I shovel it into my mouth..)

My week sucked as far as eating good....sitting in a hospital for 4 days does NOT make for good eating. I, however, STILL am down two more pounds. I was pretty proud that even with all the eating out, I've still only had 4 cokes since New Years.

I wish I liked PB....might make snacking easier!!!

I, too, am down to 7 lbs now!

I want to make it to -30 or 40 so I can then try AGAIN to quit smoking!!!

Aww, Cassie, you can do it! I'll figure out some stuff that may help you with the smoking and post it.

When we were in the hospital to have Jack... Good Lord, the food was good. When did that happen? Now, the hospital did have a separate menu/kitchen for the labor and delivery wing, so maybe that's why, but the food was really good. I'm a freak though, I think I like staying the hospital for the same reason I like going to hotels. I like to be waited on.

How's Paw Paw?

And congrats on the 7lbs!

The hospital food SUCKED DONKEY ASS, so we would eat out. They did have a Cajun shrimp salad that was pretty good, though.

I haven't been able to get over there to see my PawPaw since Wednesday. I will be going tomorrow to find out for sure what is going on and how he is doing!!!
